Allianz AG

Allianz AG is a large financial services provider which is headquartered in Munich, Germany. By revenue, it is the largest financial services provider in the world. The focus of the Allianz AG is on the insurance business. With over ?100 billion of revenue during 2004, it is so far the biggest insurance company in Germany and one of the largest in the world. The company is also the principal sponsor of the Swiss Open tennis tournament. The company was founded in Berlin in 1890. The headquarter was later shifted to Munich in 1949. The first step of becoming an international company started with the opening of a branch office in London in the late 19th century.

After the World War II, global business activities were gradually resumed. Allianz AG opened its office in France (Paris) in the late 1950s and in Italy in 1960s. The expansion continued with the establishment of business in Great Britain, the Netherlands, Spain, Brazil and the United States. In 1986, Allianz acquired the Cornhill Insurance PLC, London and also purchased the Riunione Adriatica di Sicurità (RAS) in Milan. In 2001, Allianz acquired Dresdner Bank, a large German Bank. The Allianz Group and Dresdner Bank combined their asset management activities by forming Allianz Dresdner Asset Management.

Allianz AG is now present in more than 70 countries with over 177,000 employees. At the top of the international group is the holding company, Allianz SE, with the head office in Munich. Allianz AG provides to over 60 million customers across the globe with a comprehensive range of services in the areas of:

asset management operations

Allianz operates a general insurance business in Australia through Allianz Australia Insurance Limited. Allianz Australia’s predecessors began as Manufacturers Mutual Insurance in1920.
