Citibank is one of the major international banks of United States of America and it was established in the year 1812. It was earlier known as the City bank of New York. Presently Citibank is a consumer and a corporate bank and is also a major part of the financial group called the Citigroup. This group is also considered to be the largest company in the world as well. Citibank was established by a group of merchants in New York and its head was Samuel Osgood. After this the bank was taken over by Moses Taylor. In the year 1865, the bank joined the National Banking System of the United States of America. It was after this that the bank came to be known as the National City Bank. By the end of 1894, the bank became the largest banks of the United States of America. But Citibank achieved its main feat when in 1897, the bank became the first US bank to open a foreign branch.
